One of the main aim of the project is to realize a new and single protocol for monitoring macro floating waste in the Med area.
The third day of workshop is dedicated to river litter. The attendants today at the canal of Fiumicino, one of the Tiber's mouths. According to the study of 2016, carried out in this area, within the RIMMEL network, about 85 objects arrive every hour to the sea, 80% of which are plastic, brought from the Fiumicino canal.

During the WS various monitoring approaches and the results of the testing activities carried out within the MEDSEALITTER project were presented for the development of the monitoring parameters with the use of different techniques and observation platforms. The workshop report will provide an overview of the development of FMML monitoring protocols for updating the guidelines of the TG ML “Guidance on monitoring of Marine Litter in European Sea”.
In line with what was agreed during the WS, the monitoring protocol of the MEDSEALITTER Floating Litter was finalized. Some minor changes could be necessary in the upcoming months following the revision of the protocol, and the Joint List of items by the TG ML of MSFD
